About Dr. Burlingame-Lee:
Dr. Laura Burlingame-Lee, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist |
I'm Laura (Dr. Burlingame-Lee), and I'd like to tell you a little bit about what I do. When I was in private practice, I offered individual therapy, couples counseling, and life coaching, as well as psychological assessment, group therapy, support groups, seminars and workshops. Clinically, I specialized in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and work with women and men of all backgrounds. I also provided psychological assessment in a variety of areas, including ADD/ADHD, and personality assessment. I'm trained and skilled in gender, sexuality, coming out and transitioning issues, coping with distress, developing and healing relationships, trauma and abuse, and personality disorders, especially borderline personality disorder. Additionally, I worked work with issues associated with aging, easing stress, integrating spirituality into your life (if wanted), and helping you identify your dreams and your goals. I thoroughly enjoyed coaching people who are growing into their full potential and working on achieving their dreams.
My training includes earning a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Counseling Psychology from Colorado State University. I completed my APA-approved internship at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan, where I chose rotations in the geriatric, admissions, and male offenders units. I have also trained extensively in providing DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and specialized in this type of therapy since 2001, beginning in graduate school. Last (and not least), I am a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Idaho, and have continued to expand my knowledge by studying positive psychology, art and creative therapies, coaching methodology, and techniques that will help both counseling and coaching clients. |
I currently work in Boise, Idaho, working with patients in the concussion clinic and brain injury programs. In clinical work, I focus on adjustment to challenging and life-changing circumstances, identifying and challenging negative thinking, developing positive coping and life skills, building positive experiences, increasing awareness of societal influences as they affect a variety of life issues, including gender, sexuality, body image, aging, and self-esteem. I enjoy working with religion and spirituality, especially when it intersects social and psychological functioning. I work with and am trained as a Level 1 provider in iRest (c), and am working on Level 1 training in EMDR to more fully address trauma that I see in my patients. I also enjoy bringing in creative aspects of therapy, such as personal myths, metaphors, artistic expression, and journaling. I utilize mindfulness as a tool in therapy as well as in my own life.
Since early 2018, I have worked with St. Alphonsus Rehabilitation Services (STARS) in Boise, ID, as a clinical psychologist. I provide counseling and support to patients and families experiencing stress and disruption stemming from brain injuries, concussion, stroke, and other conditions. I work with an amazing team of physical, speech, and occupational therapists, as well as social workers and neuropsychologists to provide individualized treatment oriented toward enhancing independence and the best life possible.
In coaching, I work to enhance your knowledge of your dreams, your strengths and challenges, and your goals. We look at family, work, personal and societal selves and how you want to balance them. We talk about priorities, balance, goals and the life you want to lead. This work can include journaling, creative expression, structuring and organizing time and resources or other techniques to clarify what you want to see happen in your life, and encompasses life coaching, relationship coaching, exam/study coaching, and business coaching. In addition to working with life issues, coaching can also help with creative blocks, exploring who your creative self is, and uncovering that self through creative activities such as mask-making, art journaling, or other artistic pursuits. Techniques I use include goal-setting strategies, accountability contracts, exploring blocks and obstacles to progress, exploring your values and aligning your goals and actions with your values. This coaching work can be applied to life coaching, exam/study coaching, relationship coaching, and/or creativity coaching, as well as many other life situations.
I currently offer workshops in self-esteem for both girls and adults (men and women), journaling for well-being, mask-making for visualizing pain and/or trauma, and creative self-knowledge. I am currently working on turning some of these workshops into books and/or online experiences available for individual purchase. I formerly provided seminar-style classes for learning DBT (for professionals), as well as information on body image and self-esteem as well. If you are interested in joining me for a workshop, or having me speak, please let me know!
I have a passion for promoting wellness and recovery, creating peace and promoting unity, and for increasing acceptance of differences and celebrating diversity. My workshops and seminars in these topics reflect both my training and my belief that these are possible and attainable. I strive to work with you wholistically – looking not only at what brings you to see me, but also how you approach life, what your experiences have been and how they affect you today, and how all aspects of who you are – your physical, mental/cognitive, creative and emotional sides – integrate into who you want to become.
